Course Overview

Biochemistry is a central and interdisciplinary area in the field of biosciences, participating in the resolution of many societal challenges and seeking to contribute to sustainable environmental, social and economic development (Sustainable Development Goals 4-6 and 10-15). The Master in Biochemistry aims to prepare professionals to perform functions, tasks and activities in the field of Biochemistry, fundamental and applied, in technical, academic or scientific research careers. It presents 3 main lines of education: i) Fundamental Biochemistry; ii) Biochemistry and Health, including the study of the molecular mechanisms of diseases and aging, Environmental Health and its impacts on human health and the development of new drugs; iii) Biotechnological Biochemistry, dedicated in particular to the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage and agri-foods applications. This Master offers trainees the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and develop specific skills, according to their personal interests, in lines of action based in research institutes, centers and laboratories. Trainees will be able to develop their dissertations in an academic environment or in collaboration with companies.

Industry / Services: Agri-food, Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology, Toxicology, Environmental Control and Diagnostics, Design and Consulting Offices, Natural and Cultural Heritage and Conservation. Health and Environment: Clinical Analyses Laboratories, toxicological and environmental analyses. Research: Fundamental and Applied in Research Centers within the areas of Environmental Sciences, Conservation of Natural and Cultural Heritage, Health and Well-Being, Life Sciences and Health, Biotechnology and related areas. Teaching: Higher, Polytechnic and Secondary Education.

Specific Entry Requirements

Candidates must have a degree in Biochemistry, Human Biology, Biotechnology, or Biology. Graduates in Chemistry, Technological Chemistry, Oenology and Ecology and Environment. Candidates who are licensed in areas for their purposes may apply and must this sends the curriculum vitae and the study plan of the respective degree.
