The UNIMED - Union of Mediterranean Universities, leads the consortium of 14 institutions implementing the APRAIS project, funded under Erasmus+ KA2 - Capacity Building in the Field of Higher Education.

The overall objective of the APPRAIS project is to support, through cooperation with European institutions, the reconstruction and modernization of the governance system of higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, with a specific focus on strategic planning, quality assurance and the implementation of the Bologna process.

Institutionalizing good governance practices in Iraq HEIs also means enforcing institutional values such as autonomy, accountability, participation, quality assurance and internationalization, as well as implementing well-structured management systems.

The project will contribute to the development and modernization of the higher education sector in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq by supporting HEIs in complying with international standards and empowering university staff to effectively manage and implement change.

The APPRAIS project stems from the desire of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR KRG) to improve and develop the higher education system in the Kurdistan region.

The MOHESR KRG has encouraged several Iraqi Universities to adopt the European model of higher education, thus supporting the implementation of the Bologna Process.

Thus, the main objectives of this project are:

  • Improving University Governance by sharing good practices and elaborating a roadmap for their implementation in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs);
  • To improve the capacities of HEIs in quality assurance mechanisms, strategic planning, management and accountability practices;
  • Supporting the implementation of the Bologna Process in HEIs in the Kurdistan region of Iraq by improving knowledge on credit recognition and student mobility;
  • Adoption of university reform on good governance and the Bologna process in each HEI by defining and validating institutional action plans.

POCTEP - Centro de Innovación Universitário de Andalucia, Alentejo y Algarve (CIU3A) , financed under the 2014-2020 INTERREG V-A Spain-Portugal Programme (POCTEP) – specialised knowledge transfer offices – Agri-food, Heritage, Digital Health and Creative Industries.

The purpose of this programme is to create an infrastructure that will enable the rehabilitation of a UÉvora area comprising physical facilities and equipment to set up the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Laboratory and for the development of the knowledge platform. This platform will include the design of continuously updating application software that organises, structures and  disseminates knowledge produced by the institutions in the CIU3A’s area of influence, in particular the University of Évora.

The rehabilitated facilities will be named the Gil Eanes Hall.

Within the scope of financing programme ALENT2020 – Research and Innovation Infrastructures, the University of Évora received €665,000.00 in funding for the BLUE project through the UÉ Centre for Advanced Studies in Management and Economics (CEFAGE).
The Principal Investigator is Professor Soumodip Sarka, coordinator of the CEFAGE Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Operations Group.
This innovative project entails the creation of a Business Lab, which will be used to cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit, encourage the creation of startups and spin-offs resulting from research conducted by the UÉvora Research Units, and to enhance knowledge.
The Laboratory’s physical infrastructures will help give visitors a feeling of well-being and interaction with the space, thanks to the design and the synergies created. These infrastructures will be the physical building block for state-of-the-art technology infrastructures.
BLUE will be open to those with interesting business ideas, whether UÉvora students, high schoolers, or entrepreneurs. Activities to be offered include bootcamps, workshops, technology brokerages and mentoring, integration into initiatives under the Living Science Education Programme, the development of technological catalogues and the creation of a platform for the supply and demand of technology.
BLUE will bridge the gap between the incubator network and businesses in the region.

SpeedTalent - financed under the Alentejo 2020 Regional Operational Programme

The project is promoted by PACT in partnership with the University of Évora, the synergies of which are based on the links between the various partners: ADRAL, NERE, ANJE, SINES TECNOPOLO, IP Portalegre, IP Santarém and IP Beja. This regional innovation ecosystem helped bring together young entrepreneurs and the creators and promoters of innovative projects.
