Colégio dos Leões

Colégio dos Leões

The former Leões Flour and Pasta Factory, dedicated to the production of pasta and bakery products and considered a benchmark in the national milling industry, closed its doors in 1993. Five years later, the University of Évora acquired the facilities and embarked on an ambitious project to create a centre for art studies at the University of Évora.

The doors to the redeveloped building are now open to visitors. The redevelopment project was led by architects Inês Lobo and Ventura Trindade. It focused on maintaining consistency with the surrounding architecture and the original architectural features, opting for mixed solutions of steel-concrete, steel-wood and wood-concrete. The use of simulated whitewash is another element symbolising the traditions of the region that UÉvora calls home. The Alentejo.
