Ecology and Environment

Bachelor's Degree

Ano Letivo 2024/2025

Course Overview

This degree course provides students with solid science-based training and is designed to teach them how ecosystems work so they can help improve the integrity of ecosystems and environmental quality. The interdisciplinary training approach encompasses environmental chemistry, the structure and function of ecosystems, fauna and flora of the Iberian Peninsula, spatial analysis, the management, conservation and restoration of ecological systems, the assessment, monitoring and improvement of ecological quality, climate change and the social dimension of environmental issues, among other areas. Given that ecosystems have different levels of anthropogenic disturbance, these offer the perfect settings for practical classes and field work. The faculty members, with their many years of experience and a long history of teaching and conducting research in the various branches of ecology, environmental sciences, spatial planning and environmental management and restoration, bring a holistic approach to the environment, covering everything from natural sciences to human and social sciences. With a degree in Ecology and Environment, graduates will have access to a wide range of postgraduate studies (second and third-cycle) focusing on ecology and the environment should they wish to pursue further training.
