Course Overview

The Master in Management and Enhancement of Historical and Cultural Heritage (GVPHC) is a 2nd Cycle degree offered by the History Department of the University of Evora in collaboration with other Departments of the same Institution. The Master aims at deepening theoretical, conceptual and technical knowledge in Historical and Cultural Heritage, in its various aspects, associated with the mastery of methodologies and techniques of inventorying, preserving, enhancing and managing the same Heritage. It also aims to provide skills that will enable the recognition of the value of the various types of Heritage, through the study of their historical contextualisation and the various ways of valuing it in contemporary societies.
Based on a multidisciplinary and integrative vision, the training profile designed for the Master's aims for its graduates to be agents for boosting the historical and heritage legacy of the regions, placing them at the service of their development. This Master's Degree, provided by Professors with experience in the areas of Cultural Heritage, History, History of Art, Museology, Landscape, Environment and Planning and Chemistry, seeks to ensure the training of specialists capable of safeguarding and managing Historical and Cultural Heritage in the Contemporary World, as well as betting on Heritage as a form of sustained development and cultural promotion of different regions and countries.

The 2nd Cycle in GVPHC aims to respond to the request of students for a complementary training in the area of Heritage, as well as to respond to the training demands of the labour market. The existing branches aim to respond to the requests of specialists in the areas of Heritage and Art History, Heritage and Environment and Scientific, Technological and Industrial Heritage on the part of municipalities, foundations, museums and institutions linked to Heritage and its valorisation and safeguarding. The Master's degree may be awarded by means of a dissertation or an Internship Report, with the aim, in the case of the Internship, of providing more practical training and ensuring better integration into the labour market. The training objectives are fully achieved when we see a growing number of students from the Portuguese-speaking world, which can guarantee the creation of a strategic platform by the University of Evora in the field of Historical and Cultural Heritage.
