Course Overview

The Master's Degree in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing, gives the academic degree and simultaneously recognized by the Order of Nurses the proficiency necessary to care for women, inserted in the family / community, in the pregnancy-puerperal cycle, as well as caring in the area of sexual and reproductive health. It lasts for two years. The curriculum follows the guidelines of the European Community, the Nursing and Midwives Council, and the International Confederation of Midwives. It guarantees solid training, ensures the acquisition of skills and allows free movement within the European area. The course requires public evidence to defend a Report / Project Work / Dissertation before a jury with experts in the field of expertise.

Career Prospects

Liberal exercise of the profession or exercise of the profession in public or private institutions, namely: General Hospitals, Specialized Hospitals (Maternities); Health centers; Schools; Medical and Nursing Clinics; Companies. Upon completion of the course with the discussion of the Report / Project Work / Dissertation in public exams, you will be awarded the Master degree.
By giving the diploma of completion to the Order of Nurses you will thus have access to the professional category of specialist nurse. Thus, with the title of specialist nurse passed by the Order of Nurses and the master's degree passed by the University.

Specific Entry Requirements

According to article 17 of Decree-Law no. 65/2018 of August 16:
1. Can apply for the study cycle:
a) nursing bachelor degree or legal equivalent;
b) Holders of a foreign higher academic education in Nursing, achieved following a 1st cycle of studies, organized following the principles of the Bologna Process by a country adhering to this Process;
c) Holders of a foreign higher academic education in the area of Nursing, which is recognized as satisfying the aims of the bachelor by the Scientific Board, statutorily competent, of the higher education institution where they wish to be admitted;
d) Holders of a school, scientific or professional curriculum in the Nursing area, which is recognized as attesting capacity to carry out this cycle of studies by the Scientific Board, statutorily competent, of the higher education institution where they wish to be admitted;
2. The recognition referred to in points (b) to (d) of paragraph 1 shall only have access, to the study cycle, leading to the master’s degree, and shall not confer the equivalence to the degree of bachelor or the recognition of that academic degree.
3. Have the professional title of nurse;
4. Have at least two years of professional practice as a nurse, if considering the specialist title by the Professional Order, in accordance with article 12 of Administrative Rule no. 268/2002 of March 13.
