Course Overview

The Doctoral Program in Archeology encompasses a profoundly interdisciplinary perspective in order to galvanize diversified approaches regarding the understanding of archaeological phenomena from Prehistory to the Industrial Period. Accordingly, this Program aims to improve researchers and graduates capacities of inventorying, analyzing, understanding and synthesizing ideas and knowledge in the specific field of Archeology or in related fields. We also aim to increase students ability to expand knowledge in this same field through the use of theoretical concepts, methods and techniques of analysis This program also seeks to develop critical thinking and reflection and to promote the development of new paradigms and research works according to the highest standards of scientific and academic quality. Students are expected to develop an original research through critical analysis of the addressed issues, contributing, in this way, to the furthering of knowledge in this scientific area. It also expected that the students develop their ability to communicate (orally and in writing) with peers, the academic community, and society in general, on the issues of this disciplinary domain.

Specific Entry Requirements

Conditions of enrolment in the program of studies leading to a doctorate degree: As indicated in DL 115/2013, de 7 de agosto de 2013.

Specific conditions of enrolment in this program:

A) Master's degree or the legal equivalent;

B) Bachelor's degree, with a particularly relevant academic or scientific curriculum that is recognized, by the legal scientific organ of the university, as a testimony to the capacity of the applicant to carry out this cycle of studies;

C) Academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized, by the legal scientific organ of the university, as a testimony to the capacity of the applicant to complete this cycle of studies.
