Course Overview
As part of a Higher Education Institution with long experience in teaching and research, the Music Department is proud to be at the forefront of higher music education, studying and practising the great masters of the past and present, while also looking to the future of the musical arts. The Music Department, which has professors who are among the leading national and international figures in music teaching and practice, currently offers a Bachelor's Degree in Music with four branches: Performance, Jazz, Composition and Musicology. The aim of these branches is to provide students with higher-level skills and knowledge so that they can access the labour market in the artistic and scientific areas of music, or higher education in the 2nd cycle. During the 1st cycle of studies, students participate in various ensembles according to their instrument of study, which may include the Classical Orchestra of the University of Évora, under the direction of conductor Pedro Amaral, the Jazz Orchestra, directed by conductor Claus Nymark, the Mateus D'Aranda Choir, directed by conductor Gonçalo Lourenço, the Wind Orchestra, directed by conductor Francisco Sequeira, or other chamber music ensembles or jazz combos.

Career Prospects
Depending upon the course branch, graduates may choose to become performers, composers, soloists, join a musical ensemble or take part in activities related to musical entertainment, the recording industry or music distribution.
