This Master's course aims at providing the students with sound and authoritative knowledge and the ability to actively develop such knowledge in the areas of native and non-native languages and linguistics, based on previously acquired skills and instruction and seeking to broaden and improve knowledge.
The study cycle aims at developing skills which allow the students to acquire academic specialization through research and innovation activities to strengthen their professional competences. They will acquire skills to be applied in problem solving in novel and unfamiliar situations in extended and multidisciplinary contexts thus contributing to increase knowledge of pragmatic, cultural social and ethical nature. The study cycle also aims at promoting an integrative perspective of knowledge, articulating and intersecting a diversified area of learning which can be found in the two branches and meet the interest of the clientele for multidisciplinary practices which may lead to research such as in the areas of terminology and terminography, phraseology and praseography, document organization, computing applied to translation (namely, dictionaries), tradutology, linguistic consultancy in Portuguese and European public and private institutions, education (in Portugal, Europe and Portuguese-speaking countries), through the publishing of materials for the teaching of Portuguese as a native and non-native language.

Area of specialization in Translation: support or accompaniment of translation materials, revision, edition and / or dissemination in Portuguese language of international scientific and literary production; support or follow-up of the production of didactic-pedagogical materials to support the translator; research in translation / writing / revision / terminology; (in national and Community bodies as well as in companies).
Area of specialization in Language Sciences: teaching / education (in its various levels); investigation; professional qualification; language consultancy (in national and Community bodies as well as in companies); culture industries; edition of texts (in the press, publishers and libraries).
Specific Entry Requirements
a) Holders of 1st cycle degree from Portuguese universities organized under the principles of the Bologna Process in the study area 22 Humanities and its areas of education and training as provided in the Decree nº 256/2005 of March 16 (CNAEF), as well as graduates in other areas of study and their areas of education and training as provided in the same decree (e.g. 14, 31, 34) or in other groups, such as nos. 4, 7, or 8;
b) Graduates in Pre-Bologna Licenciate courses, from Portuguese or foreign universities, in the same areas described in a) or legally equivalent;
c) Graduates in courses not described in the decree mentioned in a) but which are considered relevant by the competent Scientific Council of the University of Évora;
d) Holders of similar courses from foreign universities organized under the principles of the Bologna Process;
e) Holders of foreign higher education degrees which are recognized as satisfactorily meeting the requirements of a 1st cycle degree by the competent Scientific Council of the University of Évora;
f) Holders of academically, scientifically and professionally relevant curricula which are recognized as satisfactorily meeting the requirements of a 1st cycle degree by the competent Scientific Council of the University of Évora.
