Learning Goals

To provide the students with the necessary analytic and critical skills so that they can correctly approach contemporary Spanish literature through the critical analysis of the rhetorical and thematic codes present in some of the major works of the transition from late XXth century to the beginning of XXIst century.

Contents

- Spanish narrative linked to the idea of the Civil War and the reconstruction of the historical memory: Javier Cercas, Soldados de Salamina.
- Main poetry and aesthetic trends within poetry: the poetry of experience vs. the poetry of silence.
Literary backround and main authurs (Jaime Gil de Biedma, José Ángel Valente; Luís Garcia Montero, Luís Alberto de Cuenca, António Gamoneda...).
- The "I" narrative at the begining of the XXIst century: fictional autobiographies and autobiographic fiction: Marcos Giralt Torrent, Tiempo de vida.
- Fragmented literature and the writing in "blogs".

Teaching Methods

- Theorical presentatios by the teacher.
- Critical debates with the students.
- Use of audiovisual material (films, documentaries,..).
- Recommended readings.
- Oral presentatios by students.
The evaluation will be conducted by means of a written individual work that will be delivered at the end of the semester.
