It has four main thematic axes: Social Dynamics and Political Structures; Institutions and Economic Development; Empires, Colonialism, and Post-colonialism; Intellectual and Sociocultural Movements.
Its aim is to ensure advanced training in History by providing knowledge of recent developments in the main historiographical domains; enabling the confrontation between different methodological perspectives in the understanding of historical objects; opening up the interpretation of historical objects to contributions from different social sciences; exploring the comparative dimension of complex historical phenomena; providing conceptual and methodological tools suitable for historical research projects; promoting students' contact with the international historiographical community by encouraging participation in seminars and conferences of expertise; encouraging students' participation in research projects and networks associated with their dissertation topics.
