Course Overview

The doctorate provides a space of training and advanced high-level research not only for those from the academy, but also for those who deal with architecture in the context of professional practice to whom this course presents the possibility of deepening knowledge and developing skills in the area of Architecture. The thesis can integrate practical work of the project in architecture as a form of advanced research, as a context of scientific research. The course is intended to work within an international context, empowering students to work in a high academic level in a global competitive; Provides transdisciplinary knowledge on conceptual, formal and practical issues, on critical thinking, in planning and accomplishment works such as context landscape, in a comprehensive way, as cultural heritage (monumental, industrial, urban, architectural and landscape) in a more specific way with research application

Career Prospects

Having in mind the value of a cultural approach of architecture, grounded with technical skills, its is recognized relevance and in a wide range of areas. Notwithstanding such scope, more specific domains of advanced architectural skills are identified, especially in a "research by design" approach, such as: Professional "attelier" in practice of architecture; University teaching (1st, 2nd and 3rd Cycles); Integration in advanced research teams (post-doctoral) Integration in work teams of planning and intervention on the territory and on the built cultural heritage, namely in municipal, regional and national structures.

Specific Entry Requirements

Candidates to the doctorate programme are admitted as: 1. Those that prove to have a master’s degree in architecture or equivalent area of studies; 2. Those graduated in architecture or in an equivalent area of studies, with at least a fulltime five years curircula in the university, or an equivalent curircula when coming from a foreign degree of studies; 3. Those who have either a scholar, or a scientific, and professional curriculum in the area of architecture that is evaluated as being relevant by the IIFA Scientific Council.
