Course Overview

The primary objective of the study cycle is the acquisition of basic training in the fundamental areas of mathematics and aims to train professionals with solid knowledge in Mathematics, which is a strategic area and a fundamental pillar for national and regional development, as well as the support of the technological development of the country.

The Mathematics department of Évora University has a strong experience and tradition in Mathematics formation, with experience in Mathematics formation since 1978. The employability of graduates in Mathematics at Évora University is excellent, with only 0.7% students unemployed for more than 1 year. The strong link between the Department of Mathematics and the business activity and its relevant role in the development of the region have contributed to the high employability of graduates in Mathematics, reflecting the needs of the market and recognition of our students.  

The quality of the curricular plan proposed and its innovative features in the national panorama also contribute to the success of the course. In addition to the basic training and some specialized training in Mathematics, the student will choose one of the minors to deepen his Mathematics or Statistics formation or obtain a complementary training in areas such as Computer Science or Physics, which can be useful for its professional life.

Career Prospects

 Graduate students in Applied Mathematics can practice their professional activity in several areas: Banks. Insurers, Hospitals, Scientific Research Institutions, market research companies, nnational Statistics Institute, medium and large companies with statistics and data analysis departments, pension and investment fund management companies, programming and numerical analysis companies amd companies that use mathematical models for planning and development. Through a Master's degree, the graduate student can teach Mathematics in the 3rd cycle of Basic Education and in Secondary Education.
