This curricular unit aims to:
1. Develop core skills in academic and scientific writing and source management
2. Encourage interpersonal communication skills essential to veterinary practice (e.g., with animal keepers and curators, other animal health professionals and the general public) and teamwork
3. provide the capacity for clear and effective communication

In the end, the student should be able to:
- present various types of written documents (report/essay, scientific note), supported by a correct source identification system.
- critically analyze the credibility of sources
- understand the ethical and legal importance of the recognition of intellectual property/authorship
- perform clinical and animal identification records
- apply oral communication strategies and analyze the information flow (verbal and paraverbal)
- Use communication strategies in specific situations (e.g. terminal illness, grief)

Teaching Methods

In the written communication topic, classes start with a short oral presentation; after that, students are invited to actively explore the different forms of writing, from source research to critical reading, construction of the text, and the use of font management tools. written production of a text will contribute 40% to the final grade.

The themes related to oral communication will be explored in groups, creating an environment of trust that allows developing effective interpersonal and inter- and intra-professional communication strategies, and foster teamwork. For this purpose, various techniques will be used, including video observation and discussion, dramatization techniques, and role play, using the introduction of a critical friend and autoscopy, and applied to practical situations and medical scenarios. The products in this component contribute 60% of the final grade
Attendance is mandatory.
The final exam consists of a written exam.
