Sustainable Development Goals

Learning Goals

Provide the students from Degree in Sport Science, basic knowledge to plan and monitor
physical activity and sport in nature events, exploring the cultural and geographical features in
the region of Alentejo.
Objectives:
1 - Knowledge and application of the animation groups techniques using the team dynamic
games;
2 - Knowledge and monitoring of orientation events;
3 - Installation and monitoring of obstacles using the cables and cords;
4 - Knowledge of the main safety rules in the practice of mountaineering;
5 - Knowledge and application of rope maneuvers to descend and ascend gaps and to
perform crossings;
6 - Understand and apply the techniques of forecasting and projection applied to projects;
7 - Understanding the hierarchy of planning;
8 - Knowledge and application of tasks to develop before, during and after the performance of
an activity for big and medium-sized groups;
9 - Develop an activity of exploration of nature for a large group, covering populations
external to the University.
Skills to develop
At the end of the course students should:
1 - Know the safety rules specific to the activities of exploration of the nature addressed,
either on land or in water;
2 - Plan, design and execute exploration activities on nature for groups of medium and large
framed in a specific geographic area;
3 - Monitor for autonomy orientation challenges with map, walking and mountain biking;
4 - Install and monitor in autonomy obstacles using the ropes and cables, controlling safety
standards and ensuring the correct assembly of materials, rather in the ascent and descent of
gaps, rather in crossing shallows;
5 - Monitor navigation on kayak, canoe and sailing vessels in autonomy within conditioned
spaces, such as dams, bays or small rivers.

Teaching Methods

The unit is organized into practical and tutorial classes as the scholar regulation of U. Évora.
The practical classes have a split session where the components are passed through a
theoretical and a practical field division where the theoretical components are tried in the field.
Are provided 60 hours of practical classes, grouped in 1 week (6 days x 7 hours daily).
Organizing a large event as required in this CU, presuppose a week of intensive preparation
for the official challenge in the weekend, including assemblies, monitoring and all logistics
subsequent to the activity. It is intended via practical assessments on the field to evaluate the
acquisition of knowledge by the students, in addition to a theoretical group report of the
activities developed.
The assessment includes questions in practical classes and group report with complete
description of the activities developed and its theoretical support that sustained them. All
students must be at least 9.5 in each component, otherwise cannot successfully complete the
CU.
The CU is eminently face, and all the practical skills acquired in person, developing skills
which can be applied in professional life.
