Learning Goals

The overall objective of this course is to give students an overview of Public Management, with regard to its principles, its framework and key concepts and techniques.
As specific objectives on intend to give students an understanding of State functions, a view of the Portuguese Public Administration (PPA) with regard to their basic principles, structure and organization and the most common procedures it developed; will be emphasized here the processes of modernization and simplification that are being pursued.
Following the presentation of those procedures will be given some attention also to the control organs and processes of the PPA, which are essential to meet legal and economic use of public resources and will be presented several topics related to the timeliness of public administration.
It is expected that, with the frequency of the course, students to acquire skills to interact with the PPA, while workers of the same or other entities that establish relations with it.

Teaching Methods

The classes are, in general, theoretical and practical. These sessions will be presented concepts and theoretical and legal foundations, typically supported with the presentation of specific cases by the teacher or by the students with work experience in the APP. The acquisition of knowledge transmitted in this way is complemented with the resolution of several practical cases, on the part of students.
The classroom training is supplemented by a schedule of tutoring, face-to-face or through Moodle, that students should use voluntarily to answer questions or to develop issues arouse particular interest to them.
Students are encouraged to opt for the continuous assessment, which includes three components: a group work on one of the subtopics contained in program paragraph 7., an individual test carried out through Moodle and an individual test held in the room. It is also made possible by the option scheme of single Examination.
