Identify scientific heritage in times of globalization; recognize spaces, institutions and scientific heritage
collections; scientific heritage and cities - dialogue mirrors. Facts, long time, short time, persistence (s),
innovation. Stimulate scientific and concern: how to handle scientific heritage involving ourselves and the
«other»? To get familiar with the role of public understanding of the History of Science, the Scientific
Museums and Collections from 18th to 21th centuries.
It is our intended to: a) recognize and identify issues, problems and currents heritage, institutions and
scientific collections; b) "Decentralization" from Europe to a global and comprehensive view of history, the
ideological settings, cultural and imaginary of the twentieth and twenty-first; c) Identify scientific heritage
agendas; d) to identify the agency capacity in the Social Sciences and Humanities from scientific heritage
in a transnational vision.

Contents
1. Introductory overview to the History of Science and Scientific Practice of the Modern world (18th to 20th
centuries).
2. Scientific practices, cultural practices and scientific heritage: Europe context in dialogue with the
strategic option of the Atlantic and Indian scientific excahnges networks.
3. Institutions, actors and networks around scientific heritage: Universities, laboratories, gardens,
museums, Congress, Science Centers.
4. To discover, evaluate and investigate scientific collections. Display scientific heritages and collections.
5. Public space and scientific heritage - legislation, policies and usage and enhancement debates.
6. Active role of scientific heritage in society and promoting scientific culture vs. Citizenship culture

Teaching Methods
Previous point. Weekly strong use of Moodle platforms made available by Evora University The uc weekly
work always with the same mode: 1st lectures lectures; 2nd out classroom sessions; laboratory classes:
analysis and review of a state of the arts article from different agendas; it will be an English internationals

group, always supervised by the teacher in time tutoring or email support. Open vectors: 3 sessions in
charge of invited experts; stimulate and lead students to participate in conferences/ congresses.
Evaluation - always focus on continuous assessment. Preparation: 3-4 individual texts (reading notes,
bibliographical essays, critical book recession; or preparation of paper/ project in a Group mode and a
class time frequency. Global Examination only for those who are not inserted in the continuous
assessment model.
