Learning Goals
To develop the capacity to formulate a specific problem, within the thematic areas considered, using the
instruments of reflection and operation of the architecture.
Internalize and apply the work processes and methodologies inherent to the Project, to apply systematically in
the positioning on the issues under debate - this internalization corresponds effectively to "research through
design".
These are objectives that cover the field of instrumental and thematic, formulating a specific problematic related
to the territory and heritage, privileging a reading of territories of the interior, revealing in them the precarious
conditions and disadvantages and trying to structure hypotheses with project or laboratory content capable of
invert these negative tendencies.
Systematization, in the light of the apparatus of architectural thought; Problem-solving, and testing will
culminate in a propositional, project-specific dimension that will be subject to confrontation for validation.

Contents
The topic of research will be launched through debate, interaction, and dialogue, being analyzed and studied in
addition to the work developed in the UC Methodologies and Seminar.
From the already evoked proactive reading strategy on territories in precarious situations will be constituted
defined actions of: prospecting; Survey; Analysis of relevant aspects according to the nature of the theme. Since
"project-based research" is adopted, it doesn't result necessarily in a deterministic aproach, where a survey and
analysis precede enunciation and formalization of a hypothesis, but it is already recognized in the surveying and
analysis activities, a propositional dimension, since they are actions raised by an ante-projectual positioning.
The desired result will be the construction of a statement that frames the objects of study considered and the
positioning for a proposal, which will be consolidated in the second semester.

Teaching Methods
Theoretical-practical classes where theoretical or theoretical-practical research will be developed. The
evaluation, based on the work developed individually by the student, will be carried out taking into account the
reflection on the work of the curricular unit's contents.
Scheme favors a workshop logic that allows the convoy of doctoral students of different editions (already
operating intrinsic dynamics of mentorado), as well as external guests.
Interim moment of appreciation of the works by jury constituted by the college of doctorates of the area of
architecture of the Department of Architecture of the University of Évora.
