Presentation

This course aims to develop the vocal abilities of the actor for theater, working and developing the voice and the body as a tool to support the interpretation.

Goals of knowledge:
Development of vocal technique as a tool to aid the actor and as a characterization instrument (high, medium, low voice), development of vocal timbre with harmonics and resonances, intonation, vocal projection, text articulation, energy of the consonants, clarity of vowels. The importance of the text, word and fluency of the phrase, rhythm and cadence of the same within the interpretation. Voice autonomy.

Objectives in terms of skills:
Development of intercostal breathing, development of sound and vibration of the same, tone, vocal range. Work on body posture, head, chest, torso and feet. Development of breathing as a comfortable support for the actor's vocal projection. Practical work on the functioning of articulation of the muscles, tongue, lips, facial muscles and development of diction in various types of interpretation and intonation. Reading of several types of stylistically different texts.

Contents

Warming up the body and the singing and speaking voice.
Intercostal and diaphragmatic breathing exercises.
Exercises to develop resonances, timbre, tone, vocal range, air energy, musical tuning. Study of vocal interpretation in songs. I work with songs by Vaccai, Cole Porter, Gershwin, Sondheim and the traditional Portuguese songbook.
Vocal articulation exercises, development of air as a source of energy for the word, for energetic consonants and clear vowels. Study the rhythmic cadence of the phrase. Exercises to explore spoken vocal intonation. Exercises in the use of air to support the singing voice, development of vocal range and vocal harmonics. Exploration of non-verbal sounds in the interpretive characterization of text. Vocal improvisation exercises. Development of the Portuguese language in phonetics, phonology and elision in texts.

Teaching Methods

Methodology of practical and expository character during classes with artistic orientation.
Conducting vocal and breathing exercises for vocal development in terms of speaking and singing voices.
Stimulation of analysis and critical spirit among students for each one's vocal performance.
Exposure to various types of text and various types of interpretation from different styles and authors.
Contact with songs and musical pieces to develop the singing voice according to the student's vocal abilities.
The student is evaluated by his participation (30%), commitment (30%) and demonstration of practical results (40%).
