Learning Goals

This course major objective is to provide the students with knowledge and skills about strategic planning process of agri-business and decision making in the long run with respect to business, products and projects, processes and operations. Concepts and planning methods of agri-business firms, namely agricultural firms and food industry, are covered to give students capability to formulate strategies for agri-business. Students are expected to develop capability to understand, examine and evaluate effects and implications of public policies in competitiveness, sustainability and social accountability of agricultural businesses.

Teaching Methods

Theoretical materials are presented and applications are used to illustrate their importance. Discussion of major issues is promoted and encouraged with cases. Individual study is required to do home-works, which are set for each topic covered. Communication and learning is encouraged and promoted through Moodle @learning platform which is used to send and receive materials and home-works.
Grading is based in two alternative, continuous and exam evaluation. Continuous grading includes an article or a business plan and a written exam. Each contributes with 50 % to grade. The article or business plan is done in successive home-works covering program topics, with the identification of a commodity system, business strategy, project and product portfolio, and production operations. In the exam evaluation there is a written exam. In both methods students are required to score a minimum of 10 out of 20 to pass.
