Presentation
This is an open programme, concerned with the critical analysis of linear and non-linear models construction. It is then an introduction to the research domain of the partial differential equations.
Sustainable Development Goals
Learning Goals
Development of skills: abstraction, creative intuition, model building, critical thinking, autonomy and (oral
and writing) results exposure.
Elementary training in the abstract theory of partial differential equations, in order to pursue further studies
in this area or to use in its many applications and areas (mathematics, engineering and natural or physical
sciences).

Contents
Evolution problems (linear and nonlinear): the heat equation and the wave equation (classification).
Existence, uniqueness, regularity and stability of the solutions. Notes on the maximum principle.

Teaching Methods
Structured and heuristic exposure with examples and problems with emphasis on applications.
Continuous assessment by development of oral work (per week) and written work (each two weeks) or,
alternatively, final oral examination.
