Learning Goals

In their entirety, with the set of the 4 curricular units of Chemistry Seminar it is intended that the student acquires, in an interdisciplinary context, an overview of the prominent areas of research in modern Chemistry, deepens his/her knowledge on topics specifically related to the area of individual research, and develops the skills needed to communicate with peers, with the academic community, with students of previous study cycles and with society in general about the area in which the student specializes.

The formal program consists of attendance at conferences organized under the Doctoral Program in Chemistry and the public presentation and discussion of the research work carried out during the year. Conferences organized by the teaching staff are indicated in the summaries of the curricular unit. Some examples are: Structure analysis of porous materials by EM (X.D. Zou,, U.Estocolmo, Suécia); Synthesis, properties and applications of ionanofluids (C.N. Castro, U.Lisboa); Nanostructuring conjugated polymers and polyelectrolytes (H. Burrows, U. Coimbra); "Sustainability in view of drug delivery" (A. A. Ricardo, REQUIMTE).
In addition to attendance at conferences organized by the teaching staff, students are encouraged to undertake courses in their specific area of research, and to participate in other conferences/congresses related to the general area of their research taking place either at UÉ or at another institution.

Teaching Methods

Student-centred learning, with monitoring by the curricular units teaching staff, the Director of the Doctoral Program in Chemistry and the individual supervisors.
The final grade is based on i) frequency or participation in conferences or courses (0-4 points), ii) presentation (8-12 values or 0 if not satisfactory) and iii) the student's ability to answer questions placed by the jury members and by the other students of the Doctoral Programme in Chemistry (2-4 values or 0 if not satisfactory).
