This course on critical thinking intends to contribute to a better performance of students whenever they have:
* to critically react to what they read in books, journals, newspapers or on the internet;
* to judge the quality of a speech or of a lecture;
* to actively participate in classes and seminars;
* to build an argument of their own;
* to write an essay in defense of a certain conclusion.

Introduction
1. Argumentation, Critical thinking and Philosophy
1.1.Plato’s The Socrate apology
1.2.Kant’s supposed right to lie
1.3.Perelman’s distinction between formal logc and informal logic.

2. Basic concepts of classical logic.
2.1.Formal Logic: basic concepts, rules and fallacies.
2.2. Informal Logic: basic concepts, rules and fallacies.

Teaching Methods

A) Reading and analyzing texts.
B) Analysis of argumentative techniques.
C) Discussion of examples.
D) Written tests (2 tests50%+50%/continuous evaluation; 1 final test100%/final evaluation) and essays.
