Contents


The contents result from the application of knowledge and skills acquired in the theoretical component, their development in clinical practice and contributions to the public defence of the interventions before a jury of experts.
In the clinical context, the student makes use of the contents taught throughout the course, so that they can intervene with the woman/family in in the preconception period, labour, delivery, postpartum and postconception period, as well as in the care of the newborn, diagnosing complications early, demonstrating professional, ethical and legal responsibility and also management and leadership skills.
In addition to the clinical content, the student is individually oriented towards the methodology of practice based on scientific evidence and report writing linked to the experience of the Professional Internship. Each student has 200 hours for the production the probatory report.

Teaching Methods

The teaching methodology uses proximity orientation and e-learning. Methodologies are encouraged to stimulate development, based on reflection, critical inquiry and analysis, expressed in the tutorial orientation by the teacher, in the pedagogical field and by the clinical supervisor. The selection of the clinical supervisor complies with the standard in force at the University of Évora, namely the requirement to hold the title of Nurse Specialist in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing. The tutorial guidance sessions are the resource in the initial phase, allowing discussion and substantiation of the project. During the internship, the student has to perform several Experiences in order to meet the requirements of the European Directive, transposed into Portuguese Law through Law no. 9 /2009 of 4 March, with several updates.

Assessment

The evaluation is carried out with the performance in the clinic and public discussion of the Report before the appointed jury, by the statutory and competent body. The discussion of the Report is possible when the evaluation of the Internship has at least 9.5 points. In the final note, weight 2 is assigned to the clinical field and weight 3 is assigned to the report note. The report describes in the perspective of the student, the acquisition of competence in SMO. In the Report the student, supports his argument in the relationship between the clinic and the scientific evidence.
