Presentation

This compulsory course unit aims to rethink the concept of "creativity" in three decisive periods in order to provide students with a multifaceted critical-theoretical perspective that can affect their interpretive capacity.

Focusing Historically and critically the concept of "creativity"; providing familiarity with the theoretical-literary issues it raises; increase reflection on literary creation in an interdisciplinary context and within a broad theoretical framework; develop the capacity for research, argumentation and insightful analysis from the relevant theoretical literature.

Contents

1. Creativity in the theorization of Classical Antiquity: from the Platonic furor to the moral creativity of Aristotle; creativity as ‘adaptation’ in Horace; the theory of sublime of Longinus

2. Reception of the topic of creativity in Renaissance poetics.

3. Artistic creation in the context of modernity. Baudelaire and Mallarmé.

Teaching Methods

Multidisciplinary practices; viewing of documentaries, films and other cultural expressions that could complement the possible readings of literary and critical works.
Students active participation and presence in classes; research abilities; reading and viewing practices; involvement in cultural activities; the quality of written essays and oral presentations in classes.
