Learning Goals

Critical and in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals and general and specific concepts of Pharmacology, for the acquisition of competencies both in the therapeutic application of etiological drugs and organotropic drugs in medicine and surgery, as well as in the correct evaluation and management of the potential risks of their use, for animal health and for public health. Acquisition of solid knowledge of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodamia and etiotropic drugs and organotropic drugs, in order to know and understand the potentialities and limitations of the pharmacological arsenal in therapy, with safeguarding by good applicable practices. The student's formative profile will allow him to choose, interpret, discuss, evaluate and use the best strategies in Pharmacotherapy, with mastery in the application and execution of different techniques of drug administration.

Contents

General Pharmacology: Objectives of Pharmacology and Therapy. Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodinamia concepts. Routes of administration and distribution of drugs in the body. General mechanisms of action. Changes in the action of medicines. Drug associations and dosage. Medication administration techniques. Special pharmacology: Etiotropic drugs - antiseptics and disinfectants; specific chemotherapy - antibacterial; antifungals; antivirals, antiparasitiums; chemotherapy in oncology. Rules of use and rational prescription of antimicrobial and antiparasital drugs. Organotropic drugs. Drugs with preponderant action on the central nervous system. Central mediators and mechanisms of action. Stimulants of preponderant action on the brain stem and spinal cord. Medullary depressants; psychotropic drugs; sedatives, hypnotics and tranquilizers; antipsychotics; antidepressants; centrally-action analgesics; analgesics-antipyretics; general and local anesthetics; antiepileptics.

Teaching Methods

Collective contact sessions for the transmission of fundamental knowledge where active methodologies will be used that appeal to student/student interaction, such as practical theoretical activities, debates, group/peer research, problem solving/exploration of CTS&A situations, which allows cooperative learning, a very effective method of solving problems and promoting learning.
The evaluation will be carried out in three ways: one, in a group, by presenting and discussing results obtained from the realization of alpha numerical problems related to dosing (30%); another by the oral presentation of a study performed by computational simulation of the action of agonists and antagonists in receptors in the nervous system (25%); the third by written evaluation (45%), which by choice can be by performing 2 written tests in the middle and at the end of the semester or only 1 final written examination.
