Learning Goals

Spaces and sports facilities are essential and structural elements of physical activity and sport. In modern societies and in advanced sports systems, the expansion of sporting activities caused by the demand of citizens resulted in increasing diversification of the types of facilities and spaces, in order to meet the diverse motivations and needs of different users or practitioners. On the other hand, the sports facilities have a major influence on the quality of sport and the well-being and satisfaction of their users. This course aims to provide the knowledge, skills and attitudes required in respect of spaces and sports facilities for competent performance of functions in different aspects or career opportunities, with professionalism, efficiency and quality.

Objectives:
a) Understand the importance of spaces and sports facilities for the professional development of sport managers in the different fields of action;
b) Examining the labor and professional context of sports managers for sports facilities, at present and in the future;
c) Identify the possible types of equipment, facilities and spaces for physical activity, sport and physical education;
d) Understand the basic, constructive and functional characteristics of the main types of facilities and spaces for physical activity and sport;
e) Diagnosing the functional design of sports facilities and make suggestions for improvement
f) To know the main aspects relating to organizational gestionais direction of sports facilities.

Contents

1. Conceptualization and types of spaces and sports facilities.
2. Social Context and professional sports facilities.
3. Planning, functional design and architectural barriers of sports facilities.
4. Natural spaces and physical activity.
5. The school facilities.
6. The organization and management of sports facilities.

Teaching Methods

The course is organized in lectures and tutorials, as indicated in the School Rules (REI) of the University of Évora. The lectures are plenary and based on scientific method, valuing the transmission of information, the interpretation of applied research results as well as a critical attitude and scientific rigor in students. Are provided 20 hours of lectures. In addition to the oral presentation is intended through questioning, check the acquisition of knowledge by students.

The final grade is the writing assessment, through a frequency or final exam. All students must obtain 9.5 at least, otherwise you will not successfully complete the UC.
