Learning Goals

The UC Sociological Foundations and Techniques in Human Resources Management aims to provide students with knowledge of the theoretical foundations of Human Resource Management, with a focus on the contributions coming from Sociology. In addition, it aims to provide students with knowledge of HRM techniques and their application in organizations. This course aims to develop in students attitudes of questioning, analytical, critical and reflective thinking about the complexity of managing and organizing individuals and groups in the workplace, combining individual and organizational Objectives. Specifically aims to:
1. Know the theoretical origins of HRM
2. Know the human resources management models
3. Know the human resources management techniques
4. Apply human resource management techniques
5. Know the specificities of Portuguese situation in the field of HRM

Teaching Methods

Teaching / learning methodology:
- Oral exposition of theoretical issues, supported by audio-visual media and illustrated with examples of concrete social reality;
- Developed summaries of the issues discussed in with indication of specific support texts;
- Individual and group reading of texts;
- Reading texts and structured oral presentation of the author’s main ideas;
- Participation in conferences on sociological and HRM interest;
- Lectures organizations with HRM professionals
- Monitoring tutorial attendance and distance learning (http://www.moodle.uevora.pt)
School Internal Regulation establishes two types of assessment - continuous assessment process or a final examination:
Continuous assessment: 1 written work (80%) + oral presentation (20%)Final examination: written examination (100%).
