Learning Goals

Specifically, this course has the following objectives: a) Understand the sociological foundations of HRM and recognize the contributions of the sociological perspective to the management of social systems in the workplace; b) analyze and contextualize the evolution of ideas about man's place in work and organizations; c) To characterize the models of HRM, d) Understand and describe policies and practices of HRM, e) Reflect on the key challenges facing the HRM f) Define the concept of HRD and establish its relationship with the concepts of qualification, skills and employability; g) Know and contextualize the evolution of the paradigms of education and training; h) establish the relationship between the concept of HRD and other variables in the organizational context.

Part I - The sociological perspective of Human Resource Management

4. The big change in work, employment and industrial relations and the challenges for Human Resource Management
Part II - Fundamentals of Human Resource Development
1. Definition and relationships between concepts: HRD, Qualification, Skills and Employability
2. Paradigms of teaching and learning and vocational training
3. Organizational performance and HRD
4. Leadership, Creativity, and HRD
5. Types of Learning and HRD: learning on the job, organizational learning and organizational development, strategic learning
6. Reflections on HRD: diversity and identity of HRD in an international perspective

Teaching Methods

Teaching / learning methodology:
- Oral exposition of theoretical issues, supported by audio-visual media and illustrated with case studies and examples of concrete social reality;
- Developed summaries of the issues discussed in with indication of specific support texts;
- Individual and group reading of texts;
- Reading texts and structured oral presentation of the author's main ideas;
- Participation in conferences of sociological interest;
- Monitoring tutorial attendance and distance learning (http://www.moodle.uevora.pt)
School Internal Regulation establishes two types of assessment - continuous assessment process or a final examination:
Continuous assessment: written examination (60%) + work group with oral presentation and discussion in (40%)
Final examination: written examination (100%).
