Contents

1. Research themes in International Relations.
2. Ontological and epistemological perspectives in International Relations and their relationship with methodology.
3. Phases of research: exploratory, analytical, conclusive.
4. Research project design: starting questions, objectives, state of the art.
5. Bibliographic analysis.
6. Collecting data and information: qualitative and quantitative methods.
7. Analysing data and information: qualitative and quantitative methods.
8. Ethics in research,
9. Writing a dissertation.

Teaching Methods

The teaching methodology uses four models to consolidate knowledge and to boost students' motivation:
1. Theoretical exposition of the subject;
2. Exploring the subject by interpreting texts and documents;
3. Exploring the subject by practising different reserach phases, methods and techniques (state-of-the-art, interviews, etc.)
4. To develop research and academic writing skills through the elaboration of a dissertation project.

Assessment

Continuous assessment: Class participation (30%) + final individual work - master's thesis project (70%).
