Learning Goals

Goal
Understand the importance of the biological aspects of human development stemming from cellular differentiation during embryonic development.
Skills
- Demonstrate knowledge, ability to analyze and interpret human biological development.
-Demonstrate ability to apply knowledge, an ability to understand and solve problems in the context of cellular and molecular mechanisms in embryonic and fetal development.
-Demonstrate ability to integrate knowledge and make judgments in genetic risk situations.
-Ability to communicate how their activities and knowledge about the factors that influence human biological development
-Understand the molecular and physiological bases of cells and tissues
-Develop skills that autonomously carry out lifelong learning

Contents

Basic concepts of cell biology
Introduction to molecular genetics and genomics
Molecular biology of replication and recombination
Gene expression and regulation
Cell and tissue differentiation
The genetics of cancer and cell cycle
Viruses and transmitting viral infections in pregnancy.
The immune system of pregnancy
Population genetics and evolution
The genetic basis of complex inheritance
Karyology
Genetic disorders in humans
Nursing intervention on genetic diseases of the newborn

Teaching Methods

The teaching will adopt a methodology of theoretical exposition of molecular concepts, group discussions of situations related to the academic objectives and seminar with expert guest. The assessment of knowledge favors continuous assessment, and will be made using conventional assessment tests (tests of continuous evaluation and examination). In the evaluation, the final grade results in the average of the two frequencies. For seminars an expert in the area of human genetics will be invited. Students can require exams, considering Academic Rule.
