Presentation

This program will consider the importance that the different comic books have on various areas of Design. This chair also aims to address the main trends of Design in the 21st century and transmit information about the most relevant authors, movements and works, raising awareness of sustainability. The History of Design in Portugal will also be addressed. In terms of learning, students are expected to assimilate the contents, develop the spirit of research, reading texts, objects and images and, by integrating the knowledge transmitted, develop personal, creative and well-founded analyzes and syntheses that allow them to elaborate their projects in a more informed way.

This program will consider the importance that the different comic books have on various areas of Design. This course aims to address the Design in the XXI century and transmit information about the main authors, movements and reference works of Design especially in Portugal. It is expected that students develop the spirit of research analyzing texts, objects and images and it is presumed that they integrate the knowledge imparted, developing personal analysis and synthesis, enabling them to develop their projects in a more creative and informed way.

2. Trends, materials and design in the 21st century.
2.1. Eco-sustainability;
2.2. Mega-dynamic materials and Design;
2.3. Interactive interiors;
2.4. Crafts-techno.
3. Pre-Design in Portugal: "sources" - the "cottage industries".
4. Introduction to History of Design in Portugal.
4.1. The "Industrial Arts" in Portugal, the Industrial Schools and the Industrial and Commercial Museums; 4.2. "The first experiences of teaching design 'as Design.

Teaching Methods

The classes take place through a theoretical process, using the media to facilitate and streamline the learning procedure. It will be constantly required the participation of students and it will be promoted reading, reflection and analysis of texts selected. Note that the readings and individual research are essential for the assimilation of knowledge transmitted.
The evaluation will be continuous through the critical analysis of the following elements: a 30 minute oral presentation, 3 reports, 2 frequencies and the work and participation during the lessons. The evaluation criteria are: quality of work, quantity of work, ability to evolve through the development of specific capacities and the integration of acquired knowledge; student attendance as collateral learning. The percentages for calculating the assessment are organized as follows: 50% final results, 30% partial results, 20% attendance. The evaluation could be carried out through a final exam.
