Learning Goals

This unit intends that students contact with a very complex issue - the analysis of the landscape evolution
- as it involves integrating knowledge from various technical and scientific areas, although the historical
perspective is that guides this study. In this context, even mitigated, it is necessary to understand how
social phenomena influence the ownership and occupation of the territory and help to identify and
understand built structures and social practices associated with it. In fact, this program only deals with
anthropogenic landscapes.
However, the course is a more specific objective and even geographically oriented, in that it will be given
particular attention to the evolution of landscapes and related farming systems in the southern regions,
namely the Mediterranean, where the “montado” formation are the most current reality.
