The course is structured around thematic seminars aimed at fostering students' critical thinking in the domain of emerging topics central to the advocacy of sustainable tourism development and aligned with the Agenda 2030.
O1 - To understand the theoretical framework associated with sustainable tourism development, framed within the initiatives and recommendations of relevant national and international organizations.
O2 - To identify major emerging and urgent themes in economic, social, cultural, and ecological sustainability, and reflect on their impact on, and from, the tourism sector.
O3 - To recognize and comprehend potential solutions on how the development of tourism activities can contribute to achieving each of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), at the destination and/or organizational level.
O4 - To identify trends and research perspectives in tourism and sustainability, valuing a multi/transdisciplinary approach.

Contents
In this course, it was decided not to define a more detailed curriculum in order to allow for flexible adaptation to the most relevant and emerging themes considered in each domain of sustainable tourism annually. Based on this premise, the contact sessions will revolve around the following major themes:

M4 - Topics in ecological sustainability
M5 - Research trends in tourism and sustainability

Teaching Methods
In this course, professors and guest speakers from different domains of sustainable tourism approach will participate, hence diversified teaching and learning techniques are expected. However, in general terms, the syllabus will be conveyed using a combination of both expository methods (for the transmission of foundational knowledge) and active methods (to foster reflection, dialogue, and debate on real-life cases, allowing students to develop their ability to assimilate content in a more dynamic, autonomous, and participatory manner). Reflections and debates are grounded in an integrative and cumulative view of the content addressed throughout the semester. The teaching component of the course is structured using three types of contact, totalling 30 hours of theoretical-practical teaching, comprising 24 hours of face-to-face contact and 6 hours of remote contact, in asynchronous or synchronous mode.
Assessment
The assessment will be conducted in accordance with the Academic Regulations of the University of Évora in effect.
Continuous assessment will include an individual work/report (100%).
During the exams periods, the assessment will comprise: Individual project/report (50%) and written exam (50%).
