Learning Goals

To understand and critically reflect the prevailing themes, concepts, ideas and aesthetic values of the European Art in a long time perspective, from its formulation to its dissemination in other geographies. To dominate the ability to recognize and interpret the visual codes, as also the codes of the artistic formulation and representation.
To integrate the artistic objects and phenomena in its production and seizure contexts and historical-cultural circumstances. To develop the ability of conceptual analysis and critical reflection on the issues relating to heritage and artistic contexts and the historical-cultural circumstances of its production and seizure.

Contents

The emergence of art critics and historiography
The definition of major historical and stylistic periods of European art and its referents.
The formulation of ideas about art and its practices.
The sense of artistic creation.
Valuation and rupture of the aesthetic heritages and its manifestations.

Teaching Methods

Thematic teaching and monitoring bibliographic reviews based in proposed reading. Visual presentation of fundamental artistic accomplishments and its interpretation in a critical and historical context. Working together with commentary-themed literature.

Continuous evaluation: preparation of a full-term written paper, aiming to produce an extended commentary on selected subjects (100%)
Exam: equivalent to that described for continuous evaluation - preparation of a full-term written paper, aiming to produce an extended commentary on selected subjects (100%).
