- Develop critical and comparative reading competences for the critic reading of some novels
and emphasizing their predominant processes;
- Give students the fundamental theoretical and stylistic knowledge.

Authors Corpus: Miguel Cervantes; Ítalo Calvino; José Saramago; Mia Couto; Luís Sepúlveda, Machado de Assis; Philippe Sollers.

Representation of the reader and reading in the Novel

1. Ironic re(writing) and (re)reading;
2. The reader and the orality: the recover, (re)construction/(re)writing of orality.
3. Reading aloud and the different use of punctuation conventions,
4. Orality and Alterity.
5. The figure of the narrator-teller of stories and the reader-listener.

Teaching Methods

- Seminar sessions with of theoretical and practical nature;
- Written commentaries in class;
- Essays;
- Analysis of literary texts;
- Individual oral presentations.
Assessment:
According to the Regulamento Escolar Interno da Universidade de Évora.
Students may choose between two modes of assessment continuous or exam.
I - Continuous Assessment:
1 frequency: Written test: 50%. Oral presentation: 40%.
In the class, written works and oral participation: 10%.
II - Exam:
Final exam: Written test: 100%
Recurso Exam: Written test: 100%
