Learning Goals

This curricular unit introduces the subject of recognition of a Project strategy. Will be analysed remarkable buildings, identifying their structural principles. Following that analysis will be accomplished an exercise where will be explored, completing or adding, the continuity of a architectonic structure which articulation between functional organization, physical definition and program be excels, searching establishment of a coherent dialogue between the existing guiding rule and the proposed structure.
Objectives:
1. Increase the use of project's tools
2. To develop ability to critical observation and architectonic analysis
3. To develop project's communication strategies
4. To develop ability to interpret a place and a program
5. Introduce the concept of architectonic strategy and relation between functional organization, physical definition and architectonic structure
6. To develop ability to establish a congruent relation with an existing architectonic structure

Contents

Subject: Order: relation between functional organization, physical definition and architectonic structure
1. Project tools: sketch, technical drawing, computer, model
2. Analysis of study cases accordingly to identification of intrinsic order of the architectonic structure
3. Relation between functional organization, physical definition and architectonic structure
4. Relation with architectonic heritage
5. Representation of Architecture: sketch, technical drawing, computer, model, text and oral presentation

Teaching Methods

Practical and laboratory teaching with 12 hours of weekly contact, equivalent to 12 ECTS, and tutorial support 6 hours a week at a time to be agreed. Attendance of at least 75% of classes is mandatory.
The program contents will be introduced by the teacher through classes with audiovisual support, conferences, study visits and individual or group monitoring of work.
Students will be assessed quantitatively and qualitatively in a continuous assessment regime in accordance with the interim assessments defined in the UC program and in the “Assessment” field of this FUC.

Assessment

This UC considers the Continuous Assessment regime (minimum grade is 10 points).

The Continuous Assessment consists of:
A1 - Intercalary evaluation 01
A2 - Intercalary evaluation 02
A3 - Intercalary evaluation 03
AF - Final presentation
(NF) Final Grade = (0.10xA1) + (0.10xA2) + (0.30xA3) + (0.50xAF)

Assessment by Examination ("Recurso", "Especial" and "Extraordinaria" periods) consists of:
AF - Final presentation
Final Grade = (0.10xA1) + (0.10xA2) + (0.30xA3) + (0.50xAF).

Attendance in classes is mandatory (75% of classes). Anyone who exceeds the number of absences will only be able to take the "Recurso" exam.
The completion of the "Especial" period and "Extraordinaria" period exams requires validation by the Academic Services.
In case the working hours of worker students (TE) coincide with the class, students must agree on the 1st week of classes with the teacher responsible for another time to present their work in person every 15 days.
