Learning Goals

- Provide doctoral students with the main theoretical references and methods for the design of an advanced sociology study project;
- Know how to design an individual project leading to the doctoral thesis.
The skills to be acquired in this course are:
- Understanding of advanced sociological theories and methods for research project design; - Understanding the main structuring features of an individual project leading to the doctoral dissertation - Developing the capacity for critical analysis on the design of an individual project leading to the doctoral dissertation - Developing original ideas for advanced research in a sociology doctoral process.

Contents

It is a curricular unit focused on framing and evaluating the autonomous work of the doctoral student, in particular in the conception, writing and discussion of his individual research project. Although there is no rigid curriculum content, the lectures focus mainly on the following topics:
1: Advanced research in sociology and thesis project design
2: Theoretical-methodological problematics of theses
3: Qualitative and quantitative methodological options and approach
4: Pre-project and project guidelines
5: Follow-up and guidance of pre-projects and projects.
6: Scientific production and public communication activities




Teaching Methods

The U.C. is taught by specific seminars, on a face to face basis, and special sessions may be applied to follow up the individual research projects to be developed by each doctoral student (a). Tutorial and self-study sessions The teaching / learning process will be organized based on essentially seminar / tutorial classes. There is active participation of doctoral students who, based on previously distributed resources, will help to streamline the sessions, in particular, about their project. individual research.
Assessment methods - (continuous assessment only):Reporting on topics related to the thesis project proposal; Other participation, production and scientific communication activities related to the proposal - 30%.
Preparation, presentation and public discussion of the pre-project 70%;
