Presentation

The Financial Economics course seeks to describe the markets, institutions and financial products, with particular emphasis on the Portuguese market. It is optional and only taught in portuguese.

Learning Goals

To introduce the students to the Financial Economics subjects, putting some emphasis into the Portuguese financial system, as well as to stress questions related to portfolio’s determination and analysis, financial investments and risk analysis.


Transferable Skills:


Understanding of the global financial system organization and in particular the basic functioning and instruments of the financial institutions, as well as the ability to the insertion in company’s financial, administrative or commercial sectors.

The Portuguese Financial System.


Interest Rate Theory: Parity and Term Structure.


Financial Investments and Risk: Default Risk and Financial Asset’s Portfolio Management.


The Financial Instruments of Financial Risk’s Management.

Teaching Methods

Exposition and debate of the Unit Aims.


Commentary of the Unit objectives according to the financial and economics press coverage.


Practical exercises to a full understanding of the Unit goals. 

Assessment

Continuous evaluation: two exams each corresponding to 50% of the final grade.


Final Exam: one exam at the end of the semester corresponding to the final grade.
