Learning Goals

Upon completing the course unit students will have to demonstrate that they have acquired knowledge, skills and aptitudes in the following aspects:
- How to structure and write scientific and academic papers;
- How to research and analyze the value of sources;
- Definition of the fundamental aspects in the use of references;
- How to use the main standards in source's management;
- Identify the fundamental forms of plagiarism;
- How to write without recourse to plagiarism;
- How to design, organize and present research projects;
- In work group work and in written and oral communication.

Teaching Methods

The theoretical-practical sessions will comprise
(1) lecture/discussion of certain concepts,
(2) instructor demonstrations of these same concepts, and other features, and
(3) student lab sessions working with these same concepts and features.

The purpose of this pedagogical approach is to introduce and reinforce ideas and skill sets so that students can master these on their own after hours. To bring this knowledge to a highly proficient, professional level, students will have to spend time and effort outside of hours.

Assessment

Continuous assessment - Consists of 2 components:
* Analysis of a scientific article (30%)
* Writing a paper on a topic to be agreed with the teacher (70%)

Final assessment - Consists of 2 components:
* Analysis of a scientific article (30%)
* Writing a paper on a topic to be agreed with the teacher (70%)

The final grade is obtained through the weighted average of the 2 components. The student is approved if the final grade is equal to or greater than 10.
