Presentation

This curricular unit explores the scientific concepts behind the entrepreneurial process, with a strong practical component that provides the main tools to structure and evaluate a business proposal.

The objectives of this UC are to provide the students with tools that allow them to develop an entrepreneurial, creative and innovative spirit, to:
identify and understand the importance of innovation;
interconnect the essential elements of entrepreneurship and innovation;
understand the entrepreneurial process and the various models and dynamics of innovation;
create their own business opportunities or be intrapreneur.
In terms of skills, the students must get:
ability to work in teams;
appetite for learning throughout life;
initiative and entrepreneurship;
capacity for decision making and problem solving in management processes;
management capacity in a timely manner;
capacity for abstraction;
creative intuition;
critical spirit;
ability to communicate orally and in writing;

Module 1 – Introduction to Entrepreneurship and Innovation
a. Definitions and concepts of Entrepreneurship
b. Profile and characteristics of entrepreneurs
c. Social entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship
d. What is innovation? Types of innovation
d. Dynamics of innovation

Module 2 – Conception and Structuring business ideas
a. Process and techniques of generating ideas
b. Design Thinking tool
c. Evaluation of business ideas
d. The process of creating a business idea and firm
e. Simulation games- from ideas to business formation

Teaching Methods

The sessions include cases discussion, elaboration of a business idea, elaboration of innovation strategy for a company, small individual works and presentation of cases, shares and discussion of experiences.
There would be made available all of the contents of lecture notes and the bibliography (with the indication of the fundamental texts), one week before, through the students' page in the intranet of the University of Évora, using for the effect the platform e-learning of the University: www.moodle.uevora.pt

Assessment

According to the Internal Regulation, the students could opt for a continuous evaluation regime or via an exam.
In continuous evaluation, the students have to present 4 projects in groups (in total they are worth 50%) and 1 written exam (50%).
In the exam, the students must realize an individual work (30%) and an written exam (70%).
Approval implies a minimum grade of 7 values in all evaluation elements and attendance in 75% of the sessions (normal exam).
