Presentation

The curricular unit analyzes urban dynamics and their relationship with guiding and normative documents on urban heritage, cultural landscapes and historic urban landscapes.

- Conceptualization of the PC field and its links with urban dynamics.
-Concepts, theories, techniques, strategies of action and planning applied to the PC in urban areas.
- Instruments and guiding texts and and regulations (nationals and internationals) especially those related
to the Urban Heritage, Cultural Landscapes and Historic Urban Landscapes
2. intellectual and professional skills
- Generic identification of theories and analysis models that support knowledge in the PC field.
- Development of cognitive skills of critical thinking, analysis and synthesis applied to the PC, including
through case studies.
- Development of analysis and interpretation capacity in specific situations of heritage processes.
- Report of an integrated clear and coherent manner in the context of multidisciplinary teams.

Contents

1. Introduction: coordination and complementarity of the UC approach perspective with other Ucs of the
PC I cycle.
2. Critical appraisal of concepts: City, Urban History, Urban Heritage, Cultural Landscape, Historic Urban
Landscape.
3. Societal changes, cities and urban transformation - a long time perspective. The Europe and the world.
4. Urban dynamics and globalization - memory, identity, and sustainability.
5. Conventions and Recommendations Letters, legal and regulatory instruments on Urban Heritage,
Cultural Landscapes and Historic Urban Landscapes
6. Case study analysis (national and international). Value assignment process for Urban Heritage and
Urban Historic Landscapes – a compared approach

Teaching Methods

Teaching methodology: theoretical and practical lessons, content display, analysis of texts and
presentation of works by the students. The teaching materials used in will be available in the
e-learning platform of the University.
At the beginning of the year will be indicated two weekly hours dedicated to tutorial work, specially in order
to accompany the students and give suggestions for carrying out the works programmed.
Evaluation:
Final examination or continuous evaluation, with: 1. An individual research paper on a topic proposed by
the student, but that must be accepted by one of the teachers (40%), with oral presentation (20%). Its
preparation will be monitored in tutorial sessions; 2. A frequency (40%).
