To evaluate the role that natural and social sciences play in a framework of education for all and lifelong learning.
To understand the role that the areas of "Knowledge World" and "Environment Study" play in children intellectual, aesthetic and socio-moral development.
To connect, in an integrated manner, the area of "Knowledge of the World" with the different content areas in Kindergarten.
To knowing and apply methods, techniques and teaching tools, suitable for construction of knowledge within the Physical and Social Environment.
To prepare, implement and evaluate experimental activities, pedagogically appropriate.
To know, justify and support the current curricular, pedagogical and didactic approaches to science teaching and history teaching.
To know techniques and methods of teaching, appropriated to children.
To develop scientific attitudes in their own work.

Contents

1. From the nature of knowledge to the knowledge of the world.
1.1. Science education and citizenship: an approach from the Natural Sciences and Humanities.
1.2. Relationship between curricular areas of "Knowledge of the World" and the "Environmental Studies".
2. The knowledge of the educator / teacher and the knowledge of children.
2.1. The importance of knowing and considerer children views.
2.2. The discovery of the natural world and the questioning of the world.
2.3. The notions of time and space.
3. Working methods in the areas of "Knowledge of the World" and "Environmental Studies".
3.1. The organization of materials, activities and times.
3.2. The physical and social environment as a resource: the preparation and conducting field work.
4. The Knowledge of the World and education for citizenship and responsibility.
4.1. The interrelationships between Science, Technology, Society and Environment.
4.2. Environmental education / equity and sustainable development

Teaching Methods

Methodologies will emphasize student participation in class, through discussion and critical thinking. Experts in specific fields will be invited.
We will give emphasis to work that focus on debate and critical analysis of texts of relevant educational content. We will seek to promote the construction of simple educational materials linked to the topics discussed.
Continuous Assessment: consists of carrying out four assessment Tasks (T) of a different nature, individual and/or in groups, carried out throughout the semester and related to structuring themes of the program (50%) and a Final Task of scientific-didactic nature on a topic chosen by the students, subject to presentation and discussion in the classroom (TF). (50%).Final Assessment : consists of a written exam (Ex – 60%) and a Final Task (TF – 40%). It is condition of approval to obtain a partial classification of not less than 9.5. in either ways.
