Learning Goals

Understanding the organizational model of sport is essential for the complete preparation of
future professionals toward an intervention of excellence. The study of organizations and
operators to streamline the physical and sporting activities in national and international systems
should consider the role of the various sports agents and the roles of various sports institutions.
Goals:
a) Provide the students with the basic knowledge on the general framework of the
organization of the sports system;
b) Analyze the missions, responsibilities and objectives relating to the institutional structure
that promotes competitive and recreational practices of sport and physical activity in
Portugal;
c) Explain the organizational models of major international sporting systems.
Skills:
a) Understand the global context and the general notions of sports organization;
b) Mastering the characteristics of public organization, private associations and sports;
c) Identify the organizational dynamics of sport in Europe and the CPLP.

Teaching Methods

The unit is organized in lectures and tutorials classes in accordance with regulations of the
University of Évora. Lectures are plenary and based on the scientific method, emphasizing the
transmission of information, the interpretation of experimental results and the stimulation of
critical and scientific rigor in students. There are set out 30 hours of theoretical classes, divided
by 15 weeks (2 hours per week). Besides the oral presentation it is intended through
questioning, to control the acquisition of knowledge by students.
The assessment includes written evaluation through a test frequency or exam and individual
work. All students must be at least 9.5 in each of the evaluation components, otherwise they
cannot successfully complete the UC.
