Sustainable Development Goals

Learning Goals

The overall objective is to provide general knowledge of the materials and technologies used in aeronautical production. Specific objectives to achieve are:
- Knowing the main materials used in aeronautical construction.
- Knowing metallic materials and their properties, with relevance for ferrous alloys, light alloys and nickel alloys. Knowing thermal and/or surface treatments to obtain required properties.
- Knowing composite materials, with relevance for fibre-reinforced polymeric-matrix composites. Knowing polymeric materials and their properties; knowing fibres available for reinforcement. Knowing the main techniques for composite processing. Knowing advanced composites, with relevance to composite laminates and composite sandwiches.
- Knowing the main degradations mechanisms of materials in aeronautics: corrosion and fatigue.
- Knowing the advantages and limitations of materials available for aeronautical construction.
