The course of International Trade aims to contribute to the knowledge of the international trade determinants and the impacts of trade policy on these flows. The evaluation and anticipation of the impacts on markets and the economic efficiency of trade policy is a subject to analyse. Finally, the decision on export/import strategies will be promoted.
This course seeks to ensure the following core competencies: i) to know and understand the determinants and patterns of international trade flows; ii) to understand and anticipate the impacts of trade policies on trade flows; iii) to define and decide over the most adjusted export/import strategies.

1. World trade: patterns of specialization, recent and prospective trends.
2. The International Economic Order and the International Trade Organizations. The Legal Framework of World Trade: The GATT and the WTO
3. Analysis of statistical data on international trade: indicators of the internationalization of economies and companies.
4. The economics of international trade: from the classical approach to the new "empirical" models of trade.
5. Foreign Trade Policy - tariff and non-tariff restrictions on trade and their economic effects.
6. Protectionism versus Free Trade - Arguments.
7. Strategic Trade Policy: from business integration to regional integration
8. Regionalism and multilateralism: Major regional trade blocs.
9. Public policies to encourage exports.
10. Basic instruments for the development of the Export / Import activity.

Teaching Methods
The classes of this course are taught in order to ensure a strong articulation between the theoretical knowledge transmitted and the demonstration of its applicability in different case studies. With this objective, the students develop a practical work consisting of a scientific article. This scientific article should apply the theoretical, practical and methodological knowledge acquired in the course.
Assessment: a) Continuous Assessment: A written test with a weight of 50% and a practical work with a weight of 50% in the final grade of the course. The continuous assessment regime is organized so that the whole process of elaboration of the practical work to be developed by the students and the other classroom classes, as well as the teaching in e-learning format, enables a continuous evaluation process; b) In Exam Regime: A written exam (Exam) with a weight of 100% in the final grade of the course.
