Learning Goals

The main objectives of the course are to provide students with a characterization of different types of agricultural policies that governments can use to intervene or influence the development of the agricultural sector and rural areas, a clear definition of objectives and main instruments underlying each and, finally, to measure the effect that the use of these policy instruments is on the different economic agents. We pretend to analyse the role of the agricultural sector in the context of the whole economy and in the development process; to identify the main problems of farmers (endogenous and exogenous)
Students should develop skills for identifying and analysing problems. Also, this course gives solid background to understand how the agricultural system works and how it interacts with the rest of the economy and identify rural development bottlenecks.
