Learning Goals

The main objective of curricular unit is to enable students to acquire knowledge to develop professional skills to help in the parental process, as well to help children and adolescents to maintain, improve and recover their mental health, developing appropriate responses to the difficulties they life, during their development in all contexts and stages of life. At the end it is expected that the student: - Understand the importance of mental health in peri natality, in childhood and in adolescence; - Identify potential risk situations of mental illness in peri natality, in children and in adolescents; - Identify mental health and psychiatry problems in peri natality, in childhood and in adolescence; - Demonstrate knowledge and skills for the intervention in mental health in peri natality, childhood and adolescence, in the three levels of prevention

Contents

- Models of understanding of development in the parental process, childhood, and adolescence
- Models of understanding of mental disorders in the parental process, childhood and adolescence.
- Models for intervention in the parental process, with children and with adolescents with mental health and psychiatry problems.
- Therapeutic relationship and psychotherapy with children and adolescents.
- Creation of the appropriate intervention and / or therapeutic model scenarios.
- Instruments of psychotherapeutic intervention with children and adolescents who have maladapted human responses in mental health

Teaching Methods

Demonstration and expositive-participatory method using the support of simulated reality as development
roles or viewing of recorded situations.
The lecture and interrogative method for theoretical exposition of the themes and concepts.
Discussion and individual and group reflection.
Evaluation strategies
Conducting a final individual assignment on a topic of mental health and psychiatry in the parental
process, childhood or adolescent. In this work the following evaluation criteria are considered:
- Presentation, organization and readability of speech (10%);
- Relevance, rationale and level of development of the subject (30%);
- Analysis and reflection on the concepts and reality (20%);
- Critical reflection on the subject (40%)
