Sustainable Development Goals

Learning Goals

To obtain basic skills in the use of the computational tools which will be needed throughout the entire study cycle. Four computational tools which are transversal to the study cycle are introduced. It is intended that the students acquire a basic knowledge of the tools that will allow them, from the beginning, to those tools in an increasingly complex way, depending on the needs of the following curricular units. It is also intended that the students get a view of the various branches offered in this study cycle.

Contents

1. Introduction.
2. Introduction to microcontroller programming using Arduino. Button, LEDs and small motors interface and control. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM).
3. Introduction to graphical programming using LabView. Dataflow concept. Control panel and block diagram. Structures for flow control.
4. Introduction to the use of numerical tools using Matlab Octave. Matrix operations. Function plotting. Flow control. Polynomial root computation. Minimization of multidimensional functions. Solving simple differential equations.
5. Introduction to the use of symbolic calculation tools using Mathematica. Expression simplification. Antiderivatives and integrals calculation.
6. Presentation of the branches: Mechatronics, Aerospace and Energy.

Teaching Methods

The teaching method is based in theoretical and laboratory classes. The theoretical classes introduce the various tools and concepts necessary for their use. In the laboratory classes the tools will be used to solve simple problems associated with Mechatronics Engineering.
Student tutoring available outside the class, 2 times per week in slots of 2 hours each. Email available for basic questions or for rescheduling the tutoring timetable in order to suit each student.
