Framing the Early Intervention in the general framework of psychological development and the situations of disability or high risk of developmental disorder. Understanding the different contributions to the Early Intervention in Child Development. Know the guidelines, laws, programs and Early Intervention services in Portugal and in Europe. Distinguish the differences between the models of EI. Know how to organize the processes of Early Intervention in its different stages. Know the main instruments used in EI programs.

1. Contextualization
1.1 Definitions and objectives of Early Intervention;
1.2 Levels of Intervention; Primary, secondary and tertiary Prevention. Pre, Peri and Post natal diagnostics. Diagnostic Levels.
1.3 Risk factors and developmental disorders.

2. Ealry Intervention Process
2.1 Intervention models
2.2. Assessment and intervention planning.
2.3.Intervention: child, family and community

3. Intervention Teams: conceptual models, supporting structures of the EI programs

Teaching Methods

Theoretical and practical classes including theoretical exposition, analysis and discussion of cases, knowledge of assessment tools and intervention in Early Intervention.

Includes two forms of evaluation:
1) Continuous, which involves the compulsory attendance of meetings, conducting written test (60%), evaluation of work performed and / or presented in class, attendance and participation (40%),
2) assessment by examination.
